review:
Maple View Farm is a small country dairy outside the city between Hillsborough and Chapel Hill. They serve local farm-raised dairy products, including cheese, milk, cream, eggnog, and eggs, as well as products from other nearby farms, like local honey and grass-fed beef.
This was one of the must-try places in our search for the best milkshake in the triangle area, so we went there for the ice cream and milkshakes, and Maple View Farm did not disappoint!
They carry a nice series of stable as well as seasonal flavors. We visited in November, so they carried things like eggnog and apple cinnamon. We tasted several flavors: pumpkin pie, sweet potato pie, cinnamon, and honey-roasted almond -- all delightful. I ordered a sweet potato pie milkshake, which was fantastic! The consistency was almost perfect. Thick enough to feel substantial, but not so thick as to be impossible to drink with a straw.
The flavor was great -- both the ice cream and the milkshake were sure winners. What can I say, you can really tell a difference with an ice cream made from fresh, local, organic milk.
We paid $7.75 for a milkshake and 2 scoops of ice cream. This might be slightly more than you'd pay at am ice cream chain, but I think the difference in quality is worth it.
The atmosphere is also fantastic and fitting the farm-theme. Sit on a rocking chair on the front porch and enjoy a view of the fields that helped produce your ice cream!
The Bottom Line
In my book, Maple View Farm is the clear winner for the best milkshake in the triangle. I haven't tried them all yet, I know, but I don't think I have to. This is the new place we'll be taking all our visitors.
